Financed by the German Tenure-Track Programme for Young Researchers, the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of Friedrich Schiller University Jena is recruiting a

Professor of General/Systematic Education (salary scale W1 with tenure track option W3)

to the earliest beginning (latest beginning should be the summer term 2021).

The candidate (m/f/o) will have an outstanding doctorate in Educational Research with a focus on General/Systematic Education. The applicants should show how their research contributes independently to main basic questions and terms (e.g., "Bildung", education, learning, inequality, competence, etc.) in the field of General/Systematic Education. Applicants are expected to show their successful activities in publishing in national and international journals, editions or handbooks (with peer-review) beyond the dissertation as well as experiences in the acquisition of third-party funding. A quality teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students are desirable. The candidate will ideally have developed a national and international research network and can refer to existing collaborations. It is expected that the applicants are interested in the development of the B.A.- and M.A.-program and participates in the teacher education programme ("Jenaer Modell der Lehrerbildung", further information can be found here: Applicants are expected to connect to the interdisciplinary projects with other departments in the Institute of Educational Science (e.g. in the areas of teacher education, justice in the educational system, poverty, democracy and social participation) and the university research profiles. An empirical qualitative and/or quantitative approach in research should be visible in the submitted research concept.

Applicants for this position must hold a university degree in Educational Science, be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the BA and MA programme of the Institute of Educational Science as well as in the teacher educational programme at the Friedrich Schiller University, and have a proven research track record that is normally demonstrated by an outstanding doctoral thesis. The length of their doctoral studies and employment period should not exceed six years in total. The initial appointment will be for four years. After a positive evaluation it will be extended for two more years. Upon successful completion of the final review after six years of employment, the position will be promoted to a professorship paid on salary scale W3.
