As in previous semesters the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena also offers opportunities to learn German language and to improve you language proficiency in the non-teaching period to students, doctoral candidates, international staff and guests. From March 4th to March 28th there will be intensive courses of up to 50 hours lessons every Monday to Thursday from 5:30 pm to 8:15 pm. Applications for these courses are possible until February 28th 2013.

Course range extended to the language level B 1

"We are happy that our offers for German language intensive courses are very successful so that students as well as staff members increasingly take advantage of these courses", Dr. Joachim Boldt, head of the Language Center sums up the development in recent semesters of this program. For the first time there will be an intensive course offered for the intermediate level B 1.1 - along with 4 courses that cover the complete range of beginner's level A1 and A2. "This is not only a major break-through in our struggle for internationalization, we also make our participants' wishes come true. Those ask for possibilities to learn German in the non-lecture period beyond beginner's levels."

In order to improve the opportunity to continue learning German without a gap, the number of class hours of each course has been extended to 50 hours of lessons. "By doing so, we have more time to learn and practice things in depth", says Boldt.

Work-friendly course times and attractive pricing

All intensive courses will take place over four weeks on Monday till Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:15 pm. "Again, for us, it is very important that our courses do not conflict with normal working times," says the head of the Staff Development Department of the Friedrich Schiller University, Ines Tresenreuter, when explaining the course times. "Our staff members and international academics show an interest in our offer because of this fact. With this offer, we wholeheartedly hope to open doors in daily life in Jena and especially in our university."

At 35 Euros for enrolled students and 105 Euro for staff members, scientists and guests the pricing is - considering the amount of time - very attractive. Moreover, in many cases, course fees can be partly refunded through the staff development budgets of some institutes or the central administration of the university.
