The Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena has to offer from 2021 one position as 

 

Postdoc position in multimessenger data analysis (m/f/d)

 

The position is associated with the research group of Prof. Sebastiano Bernuzzi at the Theoretical Physics Institute Jena.

The candidate is expected to work on the modeling the electromagnetic signals from binary neutron star mergers and on the the joint data analysis of electromagnetic and gravitational-wave signals.

The project is embedded in an ongoing scientific effort on gravitational-wave science and modeling of multimessenger signals. The successful candidate has the opportunity to join the international Virgo and/or the ENGRAVE collaborations. The Jena group is also part of the computational relativity (CoRe) collaboration.  

 

Main tasks:

  • Research in highly inter-disciplinary team
  • Co-supervision of students and help in teaching
  • Attending conferences and workshops

 

Qualification requirements:

  • PhD in theoretical or computational physics
  • Preferably experienced in gravitational-wave Bayesian data analysis or compact binaries astrophysics.
  • fluent communication skills in English, both spoken and written are required

The full-time position is funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) for two years. An extension may be possible depending on performance and availability of funds.
