Photonic data science (m/f/d)

 

 

 

commencing on the earliest possible starting date. We offer a fulltime position initially limited until 14.05.2026.

 

The "Leibniz Center for Photonics in Infection Research" (LPI) in Jena is an open user center where photonic solutions for diagnostics, monitoring and experimental therapy in infections are researched and developed into functional solutions with industry. The LPI was jointly applied for by the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies Jena e.V. (Leibniz-IPHT), the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology - Hans Knöll Institute (Leibniz-HKI) as well as the University Hospital Jena and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena under the patronage of the Leibniz Association. The Data Steward for Photonic data science is responsible for the quality of the data and data sources at LPI.

 


Your responsibilities:

  • Advancing standards in good scientific practice in all steps of data management in close cooperation with IT and life scientists
  • Exploring data flows in scientific work and implementing practical improvements in data management with a view to the FAIR principles
  • Develop metadata descriptions for experimental workflows; implement software experimental workflows; implement software tools to facilitate metadata collection
  • Data management planning in collaboration with scientists
  • Improvement of organizational and technical data management infrastructure in collaboration with IT specialists
  • Develop training programs for various aspects of scientific data management
  • Integration of electronic laboratory documentation (ELN, LIMS, LES, SDMS) and controlled vocabularies into data management infrastructure
  • Development of applications for data management and documentation

 


Your profile:

  • Relevant completed PhD in a natural, mathematical, or computer science field
  • Programming experience related to database measurement or interactive applications
  • Extensive work experience in a data-driven research environment
  • Skills and experience with relational and object-oriented data models
  • Strong communication skills, both in English as well as German (spoken and written)

The advertised position is initially limited until 14.05.2026. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).
